We are back with another pattern hack, and this time it’;s with the Skipper Sweater from Seamwork Patterns! We wanted to elevate this staple piece to create a boxy and structured cold weather top out of a woven fabric. Usually made out of a sweater weight knit, we shook things up by using a super cool statement long pile wool coating in cobalt blue. We? are absolutely in love the results,?and this pattern hack is super easy to pull off at home! This fabric is also a great trans-seasonal option for our Northern Hemisphere customers, who still have a few chilly months to endure. It’;s warm and cosy while still being light to wear, so equally ideal for Spring.

For the facings, we suggest picking a mid-weight woven fabric, such as a linen or Liberty of London poplin. We really love that they offer variations for different body shapes and provide tips for getting a great fit. This sweater took about 2 hours to sew up and the result really speaks for itself! This is going to be a fun statement sweater to wear in the cooler weather. The Hack | The pattern suggests using a fabric with at least 5% stretch, however, as this is a pattern ‘;hack’; we chose to use a beautiful woven wool. When substituting a knit fabric for a woven, make sure you go up a size to allow for movement and ease. The Skipper Sweater is normally finished?with neck, wrist and waistbands. Instead, we decided to leave these off and face our openings instead. We drafted up facings for the neck hole and wrist hems using our pattern pieces and cut them out of a Liberty Saville Poplin. We also interfaced them for a little bit of extra sturdiness and understitched them so that they sat nice and flat.?If you have never drafted your own facings, check out this tutorial –; How to draft a facing. We bias faced our hem, and hand finished all facings with an invisible slip stitch. For tips on how to hand finish garments, check out this post by Collette HQ –; Five ways to hand stitch a hemWe also shortened our sweater to give it a more cropped look, perfect for pairing with high waisted jeans! Annelise cropped her sweater by about 13cm.This sweater is giving us Cookie Monster vibes and we love it! Pair it up with high waisted bottoms or wear over a simple slip dress for an ultra cool winter look. Many thanks to the lovely Annelise for sewing up, and modelling this creation.

Some time ago,?Desire to Inspire?ran a post called Room Porn. ?It wasn’t our idea of room porn (which we’re very into, but for a totally different sensibility) EXCEPT for the scrawled writing across the top of the room; it segues with our strange lust/love of signs.
